None of the movie which were produced by studios “Lucasfilm”, “Marvel” or “Pixar”, now will not contain scenes with smoking. Disney is going to make an exception for films with an age restriction «R», that is strictly for adult viewers. More exception will be for historical figures who were known as heavy smokers.

“The examples are not far to seek, – says the executive director of Disney Bob Iger. – Take Abraham Lincoln. We made a movie about him, and found it possible to show him smoking. But, mind you, even in such cases, we will promote our vision. If we introduce invented characters or just unknown people with the bad habits in the stories about these personalities, we definitely do not allow them to smoke in the frame. ”

The ban is applied to all movies where Disney acts as a producer or involved in the production. But it refers only to films produced in the United States. Apparently, this means that divisions of Disney in other territories has the right to decide for themselves what to do with scenes of smoking. It is logical, taking into account national and cultural characteristics of other countries.

With regard to the historical figures in the films which will necessarily include scenes with smoking, there are enough personalities to produce hundreds of thousands of films. Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Sigmund Freud, Mark Twain, Albert Einstein – each of them is impossible to imagine a non-smoker. Among Hollywood stars there are too many diehard smokers, an example of which is also a serious threat to the opponents of smoking. Long-liver Clint Eastwood, athlete Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Costner – looking at them you can seriously doubt the dangers of smoking. But there was an adept of smoking Luciano Pavarotti, the great tenor, to whom tobacco did not disturb the life. On the other hand, there is also Fidel Castro, who not only gave up smoking his favorite cigars, but also limited their sale in Cuba, as well as introduced measures against smoking in public places.

In the meantime, the fight against smoking in Hollywood is increasing each year. In particular, the organization MPAA, which assigns age-rated films, introduced a special marks for films “distributes smoking” or “glamurizing smoking.” These notes are written on movie posters, together with indications of the age limits. Companies Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. eliminate smoking scenes from the movies, or warn of such scenes in special titer before movies. Hollywood press shows the examples of those stars who were able to give up smoking. Among them are Jim Carrey, Penelope Cruz, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Al Pacino. And Sylvester Stallone gave up smoking back in the 70s. He said it was during the filming of “Rocky”: standing in the ring, the actor felt suffocated.
